IBM ViaVoice is not difficult software, but it is different than any other software most users may have experienced. As a result of these differences, a great many users never master speech recognition and the software just sits there on the shelf. Professional training can overcome this, but it is expensive and there are very few Good Professional ViaVoice Trainers in the United States.

The author is an IBM Certified Solutions Expert in Speech Recognition using ViaVoice and an IBM Premier Speech Business Partner. Mr. Cox has provided “End User Training” and “Train the Trainers” classes on ViaVoice to hundreds of students all over the U.S. and in his own office.

Mr. Cox began in speech recognition with version 1.0 of IBM VoiceType Dictation, the predecessor to ViaVoice, in 1995. Under contract to IBM, he trained many of IBM’s speech dealers. He also served as one of two United States members on the world wide committee that wrote the ViaVoice Certification Exam for IBM Business Partners.
